I went to a Spiritual Art Workshop, joining with a few friends and a couple of new peeps I hadn’t met before. Lovely raven haired Shannon Breadner of VenusArt by Shannon made us comfortable on blankets on the grass. I lay down and watched white clouds drift across the sky. In a comforting, soft voice she began to lead us through a meditation. She took us on a journey, painting pictures in our minds with her words. She invited us to imagine the force of our inner selves, a turning in so to speak towards peace in a place that lives inside every one of us. A place I need to visit on a daily basis in my life that is sometimes too busy and with discontent.
Shannon began by inviting us to envision sitting under the massive protective branches of an age old tree with its base rooted deeply into the earth. She said to imagine my own spine as an extension of the tree, and that I too was strong and solidly grounded. Shannon knew well the places to which she took us, but she invited us to see for ourselves. The images she created spawned images of my own creativity. Around us she wove a web, cocooning us in a place free of criticism and self-doubt. By the time I went home I was completely relaxed and energized, I had two new friends and a painting I’m actually going to hang on the wall.
Following is Shannon’s meditation. Try to imagine her voice smooth as a soft breeze.
Find a place to sit or lie down. Get comfortable.
Take slow, deep breaths, hold and exhale with a long sigh. Ahhhhhhhh. Focus on your breathing. 3 more breaths. Inhale deeply. Expand your chest with all of the universe and its source. Release all that you need to let go of. Ahhhhhhhh. Feel your breath in every cell of your body. Receive with every inhale. Let go with every exhale.
As you receive, fill your cells with Light and Love. As you exhale, let go of all that does not serve you now.
Start at your base. Imagine your tailbone as a root through the earth.
You feel heavy.
Relax your legs and hips, let them fall and be heavy.
Relax your stomach. Undo all the knots. Release all the anxiety. Relax.
Connect with the earth. Pool into the earth like a pond of water. Feel your heart relax. Let your chest release the tension between your ribs.
Drop your shoulders. Let go of the tightness in your neck and throat.
Loosen your jaw, drop your tongue.
Relax the muscles around your eyes, temples and sinuses. Drop your eyebrows. Relax your face and forehead. Let the tension melt from your face and from behind your eyes.
Your head feels light as a flower bud on top of a stem.
As you melt into this relaxation imagine you are sitting in a wide open meadow. The grass is long and swaying in the summer breeze, the warm sun kissing your face and the birds singing overhead.
You are beside a big beautiful tree. Its massive branches hang over you and protect you. Its roots run deep into the earth, strong and steady. Your spine and the roots of this tree are intertwined. You are one with this tree. This tree is your home base.
In the distance, you see a long, perfectly manicured hedge. When you are ready you get up to explore this hedge. Getting closer you notice that one part of the hedge has a rounded section covered with over-grown vines. You feel there is something behind this. You clear away the vines and see an old wooden rounded door. Opening the door, you step through and close it behind you.
You are in a dense, magical forest with a smooth stone path to lead your way through. Mindfully walking along the path you notice birds singing, leaves rustling and flickers of light from the faeries that are curious about your arrival.
Following the path, it gently slopes down, becoming steeper as you continue. Going down a rolling hill you hear the bubbling of water flowing. In the distance you see a creek running at the bottom of the hill and another steep hill on the other side of the creek. Approaching the creek you can smell the freshness of the water and are enticed to dip your feet into the cool stream. You find a large boulder with an edge that fits your body perfectly and allows you to keep your feet in the water.
Take 3 deep breaths. Connect yourself. Ground with the Earth, Water, gentle Wind and the Fire of your spirit.
Sensing a presence you look up to see a figure on the other side of the creek coming down the hill. As the figure approaches you get up to greet this stranger. The stranger is smiling and has a beaming friendly presence. You recognize the smile and feel comforted by the warm, loving energy. Radiantly glowing, you realize the stranger is not a stranger, the stranger is you. A vibrant beaming version of you – this is your higher self!
Facing yourself from across the creek, a sensation arises as a tingling in your forehead. This feeling grows as a white light in between your brows and radiates to the back of your skull. Filling your forehead, temples, eyes and skull, your head feels light and almost dizzy.
Feel the lightness of your face and skull… breathe this in. Fill your lungs with warm light. Ahhhhhh.
The pulsating white light extends out from your forehead. You also notice a white light is reaching out from the forehead of your higher self across the creek. The two beams meet in the middle above the bubbling water and weave with each other.
You can read the positive loving thoughts of your higher self. Receive these. Embrace these. Embody these.
As your connection strengthens with your Third Eye to your higher self, a tingling sensation grows in your chest. A warm glow fills your heart. This green light grows powerful, filling your chest, expanding your lungs and ribs and heart with so much Love and Light.
The green light cannot contain itself and extends a beam from your heart out to your higher self. From across the creek, there is a green light extending from the chest of your higher self and they splash together as a lovely, soft flowing stream. Feel the love pour into you with many loving messages from your other self. You receive and give the same messages back.
Giving and receiving…. feel the back and forth flow of love.
Meditate on giving and receiving. Embrace the fullness of your heart and let it soak your entire being. Be aware that your higher self is gifting you a special message or token.
This is special… only for you.
Receive with grace and ease knowing that this is perfect for you. Thank your other self. Bow down in honor of their presence…. repeat Namaste. Say your goodbyes and thank your higher self for all their wisdom, knowledge, awareness and grace. Know this is also a part of you.
Turning away from each other and the creek you both ascend your respective hill. Follow your path back to the mystical, magical forest full of dense trees and small beams of sunlight peeking through the rustling leaves. Now, the faeries show themselves to you. You are full of radiating bright white light, and love: they are drawn to your energy. Your senses are heightened. The flowers smell sweeter, the colors are brighter colors and the touch of the soft breeze is exhilarating.
Ahead is the old wooden door and mindfully you open it, duck through and step into the vast meadow. Welcoming your grounding tree, feelings of love and gratitude overwhelm you. You find a way to honor your sacred tree. Sitting down next to it you feel your roots connect to the earth once again, touching the roots of your sacred tree.
Take 3 deep breaths. Slowly awakening to this earthly plane, wiggle your toes, wiggle your fingers, run your hands up and down your legs. Roll your shoulders and stretch. Replaying your journey, remember the sights, sounds, feelings, colors and messages or totems that came to you during your meditation.
Slowly open your eyes. And get ready to paint!!
